Hi,
I'm getting the below error when i'm trying to connect a client machine to a unix server. Actually the client has IIS 4.0 running and it acts and the front end server and has oracle 8.1.6 client. now i'm trying to connect it to the unix server where oracle 8i is running. the sql net client parameters are perfect. it seems only the two machines are not talking to each other. for example i can connect to any unix server from the client except to the 123 server. and i can connec to 123 server from any client except the 345 client. help is appreciated.

$ oerr tns 12545
TNS-12545 Connect failed because target host or object does not exist
Cause: The address specified is not valid, or the program being connected to does not exist.
Action: Ensure the ADDRESS parameters have been entered correctly; the most likely incorrect parameter is the node name.
Ensure that the executable for the server exists (perhaps "oracle" is missing).
If the protocol is TCP/IP, edit the TNSNAMES.ORA file to change the host name to a numeric IP
address and try again.

Look in the TNSNAMES.ORA file for the HOST of your connection and try to PING it. If you get a time-out or the ping fails, the name of your host is indeed incorrect.

Try to test the port ...
May be there is a Firewall between those machines

What does your clients sqlnet.log file say? It may (and probably will) provide additional information.
