I just installed Oracle 8.1.7.4 onto a Windows 2000 server. The install was initially done via terminal server. I proceeded to create a service, password file, etc. svrmgrl (and sqlplus) generated the following error:ORA-12560 TNS:Protocal Adapter error. To make a long story short, I ended up uninstalling oracle (from the console) and reinstalling it. Now before you answer, I can run the same command from the console with no problem. (set ORACLE_SID=LIMSD2 , svrmgrl). It only fails from terminal server client. I also have no problems when using VNC to connect. I have since installed Oracle 9.2.0.1 via terminal services and have had no problem, either remotely or on the console.

Can anyone offer any other usggestions. I uninstalled oracle 8i using the Oracle setup tool, and then removed the oracle directory and also the registry key.

PS. When I mention terminal services, I am making use of the two user license with Windows 2000. With this setup, I also do not (can not) use "change user /install)".
Thanks
Chris

Performing a SVRMGRL local connection from a Terminal Client will produce this error.
I beleive, connecting directly from the the console may do the job.

It appears then that this is fixed with Oracle9i as I have no problems whatsoever with administering it remotely.

You mean to say the 'installation' does not work in Terminal Services ??

We use terminal services, but we do not have any databases in Windows (all UNIX). Client tools like SQLPLus works with out any problem. No prob with installation too (thro TS).
