In USING CLAUSE OF CREATE DATABASE LIKE COMMAND, i used sid name and it dint work, but when i used host string name, it worked. why it dint work with sid name? can any one explain this.

hoststring should be used.
becuase , dblinks works on sqlnet

but what is the diff between host string and sid name and service name

ORACLE_SID is sid on which the oracle database is created.
from 8i SERVICE_NAME should be equal to ORACLE_SID in tnsnames.ora
the TNS entry you create (it may be anything)
is called connectstring or hostring. It identified the host, port , sid to connect to.
