Hi People,
Could you please clarify what is Block Contention ?
Is it when 2 or more processes need to access the same Oracle block at the same time.
Does block contention occur only during updates/deletes or does it occur even during selects
Pls clarify

You are right. Block contention can occur during Inserts,Updates,Deletes and Selects(sort,recursive SQL etc)..
Have a look at v$waitstat to get more info about what class of blocks caused how many waits..
